Who is Jesus Christ?
The answer to this question is that Jesus Christ is God. The truth about his Deity is ubiquitous in the sacred pages of the Holy scriptures. Many people are willing to accept him as a Man, but are unwilling to accept him as God. There are scriptural evidence to buttress the fact that he is God. Apostle Paul wrote in his epistle to his protégé: Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ (Titus 2; 9). From a critical examination of the text, we can see that the apostle by the Spirit addressed Jesus as 'the GREAT GOD'. Apostle John also known as the apostle of love wrote this concerning him: And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and eternal life (1 John 5; 20).
Apostle John who lived and leaned in the bosom of our Lord Jesus for three years also called him, the "TRUE GOD and eternal life". After Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to his disciples, Thomas who before doubted his resurrection, addressed him as "my Lord and my GOD" see (John 20; 28). The bible also refers to Jesus as God in the flesh: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God (John 1; 1). And in the verse Fourteen of the same chapter, the bible says: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1; 14). From the context of the verse one, you can see that the Word that was with God is himself God, and that same Word became flesh, in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus also during his earthly ministry did make bold claims to be God in human flesh. In the book of John, Jesus made a remarkable statement: Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by (John 8: 56-59).
The question is why did the Jews pick up stones to stone him? Because they knew Jesus was claiming to be the same God who appeared to Moses on Mount Horeb: And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you (Exodus 3; 13-14). Jesus was far from blaspheming, he was revealing his identity to them as the self existent God, as the great I AM. He is the self existent God, who does not have a beginning, nor has an end. In another place, Jesus said; I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. (John 10; 30-33).
They took up stones again to stone him, because they understood him, for he was claiming equality with the father. Jesus also said this: All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him (Matthew 11:27). This is a statement that a created being cannot make save God. Many religions around the world acknowledge Jesus as a good man, as a prophet, as an excellent teacher, and a good religious leader, but he is more than that, he is God and Man at the same time, and in theology we call it the "hypostatic union" (John 1; 14). Because Jesus Christ is both God and Man, he is able to save to the uttermost all who come to God through him, because he ever lives to make intercession for them (Hebrews 7; 25). His precious blood is still potent, and efficacious to save whoever that puts their faith in him for salvation (1 Timothy 2; 4-6). God bless you
